The British government intelligence agencies revealed that they (GCHQ) can disrupt the communication activities of Britons on social media sites such as Facebook and Google without the need to get permission from the authorities.
As reported by The Guardian , based on applicable law in the UK, the interception of communication between residents can only be done if the intelligence agencies have signed permit a court or other authorities.
The letter is usually issued if any suspicious activity is suspected of breaking the law. Chief of British intelligence (GCHQ), Charles Farr, argued that regulation is only binding on the communication activity defined as the activity of the 'internal'.
While communication on Facebook and Google are considered as the activities of 'external'. That's because the two services that are based outside of the UK. So it does not need permission to tap both.
Farr's statement raised as part of the government's response to the demands of the proposed wiretap law related community organizations such as Privacy International (PI), Liberty, Amnesty International and many more. PI, which voiced concern that the legal interpretation of the post says "dictate to the British people".
