Washington, D.C - US
President Barrack Obama has promised to withdraw his troops from
Afghanistan by the end of this year. The statement was issued in his
speech, Tuesday.
"Together with our allies, we will complete our mission there by the
end of this year, and America’s longest war will finally be over," said
the president.
Although Obama said the US most prolonged war would be over soon, the
country will continue its support to Afghanistan until the end of this
year. "If the Afghan government signs a security agreement that we have
negotiated, a small force of Americans could
remain in Afghanistan with
NATO allies to carry out two narrow missions: training and assisting
Afghan forces, and counterterrorism operations to pursue any remnants of
al-Qaida," said the president.
In his speech, Obama said the Al-Qaida has admitted its defeat in
Afghanistan. However, its affiliations in other countries, such as
Yemen, Iraq, Somaliaand Mali are growing. Therefore, the withdrawn
troops from Afghanistan will be deployed in the countries to eradicate
what is remaining from Al-Qaida.
