Jakarta - The
recent explosion of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra has inspired the
chef of Gambir Sakethi Restaurant in Kusuma Sahid Prince Hotel Solo,
Topan Noerudin, to make a Lava Cake.
The cake shaped like an upside-down
bowl with an almond and a cherry on top of it.
Once the dark-colored cake was sliced, melted dark chocolate leaked
out of the cake, resembling a flow of lava. "We combine the moment of
Valentine's day with the tragedy of Mount Sinabung. It resulted in the
creation of Lava Cake," said Topan to the journalists on Friday,
February 7.
Topan admitted that he was inspired by the moment of Mount Sinabung
explosion without intending to take advantage from the tragedy. Lava
Cakes are only served during February. He has sold 20 portions of Lava
Cake since February 1 at the price of Rp35,000 per portion.
To make the chocolate melt out when the cake is sliced, Topan will
make the cake only if there are orders. The cake-making process takes
approximately 10 minutes. When cooking in the oven, he tried to keep a
maximum of 75 percent maturity cake.
"This is to make the chocolate melt. If it is overcooked, the chocolate would harden like that in the brownies," he said.
During the month February, the restaurant also serves 'Dessert Pizza'
which is a pizza with chocolate layer on top of it. The dessert priced
at Rp50,000 per portion. "We serve all-chocolate menus," he added.
