Fried eel is one of the many popular snacks from Yogyakarta. At Pasar
Godean, Sleman, the local government built a culinary center for eel
dish sellers.
The location is close to the Godean District office, just
outside of the marketplace, with a total area of 1,000 square meters
that shelters 52 kiosks of the dish sellers.
In addition to eel chips and fried eels, there are other types of
dishes, such as mangut belut (eel with distinct spices), eel sauce and
others. As well as other tourist destinations, the culinary center
provides prayer rooms, toilets, and parking lot.
"The location was projected to be the eel culinary center in
Yogyakarta Special Region," said Head of Sleman Marketplace Agency, Tri
Endah Yitnani.
Hidayat, 26, a resident of Gunungkidul, took a motorcycle ride from
Gunungkidul to Sleman to satisfy his curiosity about the eel culinary
center.
"They taste great. Those who love eels would certainly be satisfied," he said.
