Samsung may have grabbed the attention in the 2014 Mobile World Congress with its Galaxy 5S.
However, in the event held in Barcelona, Spain, on February 24 - 27, the rival Sony was also confidently introduced Sony Xperia Z2.
Despite the similar feature carried by both premium phones - dustproof
and waterproof - Sony confidently claimed to be pioneering the
technology.
"We started the waterproof trend," Ravi Nookala, head of Sony's US mobile division, told CNET, Thursday. "We're not worried about it."
Sony also claimed Xperia Z1S and Xperia Z2 are made of the strongest waterproof components for mobile devices.
Z1S and Z2 are able to withstand one-meter underwater depth for as long as it needs, while Galaxy 5S can only stand in 30 minutes.
While Sony Xperia Z1S was launched earlier this year, it’s likely that the Z2
could launch in time for the World Cup to take advantage of the media
attention. Sony happens to be the sponsor of the largest sporting event.
