U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry harshly commented on the dead end
of the peace talks in Geneva.
He blamed the Assad government for
stalling Syrian peace talks and pressed Russia to stop supplying it
weapons, telling Moscow it needed to be part of the solution.
Kerry thinks that the Damascus Government is not interested at all to
end the conflict which has been ongoing for three years. The Geneva II
peace talks could have stopped the conflict and end the massacre.
"The regime stonewalled. They did nothing except continue to drop
barrel bombs on their own people and continue to destroy their own
country. And I regret to say they are doing so with increased support
from Iran, from Hezbollah and from Russia," Kerry told reporters in
Jakarta on Monday along with Indonesian Foreign Prime Minister Marty
Natalegawa.
He also stated that Russia is contributing to the crisis in Syria. Moscow's support for Assad makes the conflict never ending.
Kerry's statement was countered by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid
al-Moalem. They accused Washington to negate the talk's situation. Both
parties continue with the argument. Even during the peace talks, the
violence continues. More than 5,792 people were killed during the time
of the peace talks.
Kerry's statement was also denied by Moscow. Foreign Minister Sergei
Lavrov said they have urged Damascus to find a solution in the peace
talks. "Statistics show that the main issues are caused by terrorists
and extremist groups in Syria," said Lavrov.
