The Finance Ministry and the Financial Service Authority (OJK) will
discuss about Taxation Directorate General’s request of access to
banking data to boost the state's tax revenue.
Finance Minister Muhammad Chatib Basri claimed that the OJK has
responded positively to the request.
The Organization for Economic
Cooperation and Development (OECD) will issue technical guidance
relating to the access to banking data for taxation purpose.
Deputy Finance Minister Bambang Brodjoegoro considered that the
technical guidance will encourage banks to provide the Taxation
Directorate General with the access to minimize tax evasions.
However, the Indonesian Banks Association (Perbanas) rejected the
idea as the organization believes that the access to the banking data is
prone to be abused by irresponsible individuals.
Head of the Finance Ministry's fiscal policy division, Andin
Hadiyanto, ensured that the banking data confidentiality will be
guaranteed and will only be used for taxation purpose.
He said that
there will be procedures for tax officials in accessing the data.
"Not all tax officials will be given the access [to the banking data], and we will guarantee its confidentiality," said Andin.
