One of Indonesia’s attractive tourism destinations is the exotic craters. Formed by volcano eruption, the craters offer particular charm and beauty after a while. Travelounge September edition summarizes several unique craters in Indonesia worth visiting.

The Noisy Crater
Manojang Crater in Garut, West Java, has several spots that are named after unique sounds heard from the craters. You can hear sounds like bird voice comes out of the Kawah Manuk (Bird Crater) when you near this crater. There is also Kawah Kereta Api (Train Crater) that creates sound like train noise.

Sakaray Crater generates spine-chilling sound of dying person. In Kawah Hujan (rain crater), the atmosphere is always seems like raining with mists that wet out clothes.

The Dangerous Yet Charming Crater
Ijen Crater is the world’s largest crater lake. Around 36 million meters cubic sulfur can be produced by the 5,466-hectare crater. Although it is dangerous, the crater offer astonishing view. Ijen crater lake has 200-meter depth and zero acidity that can dissolve fabrics and even human finger.

In the crater area, travelers would encounters sulfur miners busy carrying piles of sulfur on their backs. Besides, the steep route full of toxic gases become challenge that travelers have to tackle.

The Crater Lake
Kawah Putih (White Crater) is a crater lake located in Mt. Patuha, in the south of Bandung, West Java. In 1987, the White Crater was officially opened for tourism. The characteristic of this crater is that the colors of water on the lake is always changes from apple green, blue and milk brown. However, the water is mostly seen as white with thick mists shrouding over the water surface.
