US Mulls Over Airstrike Plans to Iraq

United States Secretary of State John Kerry, said on Monday, June 16, 2014, that the US is considering to launch air strikes to help the Iraqi government in stopping the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) militia.

The statement was delivered after ISIL claimed to have executed 1,700 Iraq security forces last week.

Kerry said that the militia have gone too far and must be stopped. "When you have people murdering, assassinating in these mass massacres, you have to stop that. And you do what you need to do if you need to try to stop it from the air or otherwise," he said as reported by Reuters yesterday.

ISIL's Sunni militia, familiarly known as ISIS, claims to have executed 1,700 Iraq security forces. In their Twitter account, the group uploaded pictures of people lined up by a hole before executing them. The location is said to be in Mosul and Tikrit.

Although the truth behind the pictures is yet to be verified, the US condemns the massacre. Jen Psaki, US State Department spokesperson said that ISIL’s claims explains what the group is all about, bloodthirsty.

President of Iran Hassan Rouhani surprisingly said that he is ready to work together with the US. He also stated that he is ready to assist Prime Minister of Iraq Nouri al-Maliki, who is a Shi'a. He said that if the government of Iraq asked for assistance, he will consider it. But so far there have not been any requests.
