US Marijuana Users Increase

Increasing number of Americans consuming marijuana raises concern among United Nations member states, especially when consuming marijuana has been legalized in several states. 

"We have an increase in harmful use of marijuana in the United States," said Angela Me, Chief Researcher of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Thursday, June 26, 2014. 

In a meeting about marijuana discrimination, Angela said that more people in the world, whether in United States or Europe, are searching for treatment for health disorders due to the misuse of marijuana.

The high consumption of marijuana is balanced by the legalization is several areas in Washington and Colorado, and the South American country of Uruguay. It was still too early to understand the impact of recent legalization moves.

In this year's celebration of the International Anti-Drug Day, UNODC campaigned that drug users can be treated in the hopes that all parties can prevent the use of marijuana, especially on young generations that are more likely to be exposed to drugs.
