Google Maps has quietly added up information on its biking routes
that will help cyclists in finding safe and correct routes, complete
with the road elevation information and the travel duration.
Tech Crunch reported that the elevation information is
available in 14 countries: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada,
Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Finland, England, the Netherlands,
Norway, New Zealand, Sweden and the US.
To access the feature, users can load the Google Maps app and look
for a route in the map. Then, choose the biking directions and look for
the new elevation profile. Besides the graphical representation hills,
the new feature also shows you the total number of steps you will have
to climb on the selected route.
Unfortunately, the map that will be helpful for the cyclists has yet to be available on cell phones.
