TNI Soldier Shot Dead in Papua

The XVII regional Military Command/Cendrawasih Military Command's chief of staff, Brig. Gen. Hinsa Siburian, said a group of gunmen that has been active in Puncak Jaya, Papua has a criminal motive, but not for the ideology of Papua’s independence. 

This is because their victims include residents, such as motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers, teachers and civilians.
 
On Friday, there was a shooting at the Indonesia Military’s (TNI) Yonif 751 security post in Gurage, Papua. The perpetrators were suspected to be part of an armed group that often takes actions in that area.

The shooting at 1.45 p.m. had caused two TNI members from Batallion 751/Raider who were patrolling - Second Sergeant Polang Harahap wounded on his temple, and Second Sergeant Rahman Hakim shot on his right shoulder. Due to bleeding, Rahman Hakim died at the location. Meanwhile, Polang is currently treated at TNI Marthen Indey hospital, Aryoko in Jayapura City.

Brig. Gen. Hinsa said his party will not increase the number of personnel to improve the security at the TNI post in Gurage, Puncak Jaya.
