PLN Saves Rp1 Billion During Earth Hour Time

The 2014 Earth Hour Campaign was held in Jakarta and 32 big cities in Indonesian on Saturday evening, March 29, 2014. 

Through this campaign, the people are urged to switch off power and turn off the lights for one hour.

And according to State-owned Electricity Company PT PLN, the Earth Hour campaign has resulted in the significant drop of electricity usage.

PLN Spokesman Bambang Dwiyanto said that electricity usage in Java, Madura, and Bali dropped by 509 megawatt or equals to 2.56 percent compared to that in the previous week.

"Drop in the electricity usage especially happens at 9 pm," Bambang said in a written statement on Sunday, March 30, 2014.

Bambang went on to say that the decline in electricity usage means that PLN can save more than Rp1 billion.
