Chief of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency Arie Budiman, said that
the Jakarta Old Town revitalization project will be carried out one step
at a time.
The revitalization project will be inaugurated by Jakarta
Governor Joko Widodo on March 13, 2014.
"The inauguration [event] will
be at Fatahillah Park," he told Tempo on Monday, March 3, 2014.
Arie said the revitalization will begin with building conservation,
starting from the Pos Indonesia building at Fatahillah Park. According
to Arie, the building will be turned into contemporary museum and
information center.
CUrrently, based on Jakarta government's data, there are 85 old
buildings at the Jakarta Old Town area. Arie said that conservation
efforts will be done on buildings with poor condition. "Those 85
buildings will be the targets of the conservation," he said.
