The upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update in April will introduce
Cortana, a personal digital assistant to rival Siri or Google Now.
Like
Siri, Cortana will allow Windows Phone users to search and can be
activated by voice commands.
Cortana also can call users by name after
the function is enabled in the settings. The feature is named after a
female character in the Halo video game franchise.
A key strength of the feature is its ability to save data, such as
location, personal, reminder, and contact information, in a notebook
system. Cortana is also capable of tracking locations and emails.
Cortana will be supported by data from services such as Bing,
Foursquare, and others. Microsoft has planned to unveil Cortana at its
upcoming Build conference on April 2-4, 2014, in San Fransisco.
