The Romantic French 'Neighbor'

Written By Unknown on Sunday, 2 February 2014 | 03:25

The front appearance of the restaurant located on Jl. Gunawarman No. 34, South Jakarta, was not too prominent.

Le Quartier restaurant was originally a house that was rebuilt into a restaurant with classic European style.

Elegant cobalt-blue color shaded the detail of the restaurant exterior and interior.

In French, Le Quartier means 'neighbor'. The restaurant has four rooms; a 12-capacity VIP room, a courtyard, a bar, and a front area called "by the window".

"Our concept is casual fine dining, so it is a suitable place to relax with the gang," said Lizara Dona, the restaurant's General Manager.

Dona offered us the Escargot Bourgogne as the appetizer that afternoon. In French, escargot or snail is a popular snack to be eaten before the main course. There is even a saying that the taste of the snail cooking determines delicacy of all food offered in a restaurant.

Escargot Bourgogne was served on a pan with eight small recesses where the tiny snail meat contained. The taste was better than its appearance. The menu was covered with several tender layers such as boiled spinach, smoked duck, and fat Portobello mushroom. The broth of onions and butter was melting inside the mouth.

This is a 'must try' menu.

Duck Leg Confit Salad and Angel Hair Aglio Olio, two signature dishes of Le Quartier arrived less than ten minutes later.

The first menu was served with honey sauce and mustard, French bean, roasted potatoes, and mushrooms. The duck legs were cooked with 'confit' method, an old cooking and food-preserving method of France.

The meat were sliced and preserved with salts and spices for a whole day before they were roasted. The result was a tender duck meat without too much taste of spices.

Angel Hair Aglio Olio was different from the first menu; the dish had strong taste of spices. The pasta was thinner than fettuccini that it looked like locks of hair. Three fat prawns were the most tempting appearance of the dish.

As for the dessert, Red Velvet Crepes and Cake of The Day were chosen by Dona for us. I fell in love at the first sight as I saw the Red Velvet Crepes. It was bright red combined with vanilla ice cream at the edge of the long plate. The taste was not too sweet and the acidic of the raspberry was quite strong.

In addition to the rows of French wine, Le Quartier offers Citrus Cooler as its signature drink. The sensation of lemon, citrus, mint, berry and a taste of ginger inside the soda water was quite refreshing.

The restaurant, that is actually owned by a Belgian, opens from 07:30 in the morning, up until everyone is ready to go home. The happy hour is started at 17:00 until 20:00 local time, every Monday to Friday. The romantic ambience that shrouds the restaurant made Le Quartier a perfect place to go on a romantic dinner date.
