Four-time F1 world champion, Sebastian Vettel, has been blamed for causing the number of F1 audience to decline.
A Global Media report revealed the number of F1 audiences in 2013 has plunged 10 percent compared to in 2012.
According to Global Media, Vettel’s domination with Red Bull
Racing has been the major factor as the number of the sports’
television audiences declined in the last two seasons. In 2013, there
were only 450 million F1 television viewers, while there were 515
million viewers in 2011 and 500 million in 2012.
F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, said the early Vettle’s domination in the
last season was one of the major factors of the decline, whereas,
during the last two series, such as in the United States and Brazil,
televisions could gain a huge number of viewers.
FIA has modified several regulations to make F1 remain competitive.
One of which is to double the point earned by the winner of the final
race. Racers must also reduce their engine capacity to make the
competition remain attractive.
