Verizon Wireless has announced that Google's Nexus 7
tablet will be available on February 13th — almost six months after it
was first introduced.
The 32GB model will be available for $349.99 both
online and in the carrier's retail stores. Verizon at first refused to activate the Nexus 7
on its network, drawing the ire of many customers.
The company quickly
issued statements claiming that Google's tablet hadn't yet passed its 4G
LTE certification process. Soon after that, Verizon revealed that Google and Asus discovered an issue
during testing that would be fixed with Android 4.4.
With KitKat now on
Google's tablet, Verizon has officially cleared it for launch. For a
limited time, Verizon says that users can purchase the Nexus 7 for
$249.99 with a new two-year activation. The carrier will also offer
several cases and accessories for the Nexus 7.
You'll no longer need to swap in a SIM card from another Verizon tablet — a workaround some users discovered before today's announcement. Everything will finally work as it should.
