
Since a few months ago, Intel, ARM, and AMD technology show each other 32-nanometer process each. However, their achievement will not survive that long. Immediately appears that the process technology is smaller, 28nm.
A team of IBM, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Infineon Technologies, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., and STMicroelectronics are currently working on 28nm process technology. Together they developed a CMOS process technology (Complementary metal oxide Semiconductor) 28-nanometer, high-k metal gate (HKMG), low-power.
This means that the present chip-chip of a smaller, more energy efficient which can process information with less power. The team said that the platform technology, low-power, 28nm devices will benefit various MID (mobile internet device) and UMPC (ultra mobile PC), or netbook, and also a smart phone.
The team is quite sinuous lines up with the transition to 32nm-28nm, so that clients can start the design at the 32nm technology HKMG, then bertransisi to 28nm technology to take advantage of the density and power, without the need to re-design of large-scale.
Preliminary results with a few clients and partners shows that the 28nm technology platform can provide performance improvements and 40 percent more than 20 percent of all power-chip of a half-sized compared to 45nm technology.
