Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, the general who led the military takeover of
Thailand, has already informed the Thai King about the seizure of the
ruling power, the coup leader told a meeting on Friday.
A letter has been sent to the Office of the King's Principal Private
Secretary so there is no longer the need to seek audience with the King,
he reportedly said.
This would eliminate the fear that the palace would be dragged into the conflict, he said.
In past coups, shortly after the coup makers successfully staged the
putsches, they customarily sought an audience with the King in televised
broadcasts.
Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha is known as an ardent defender of the monarchy,
an adversary of the former prime minister at the center of the nation's
political crisis, and a prickly personality prone to snap at unwanted
questions.
