A painting made by Yarno (44), an artist from Pagar Alam, South Sumatera, Yarno (44), has been sold at SGD 20,740 or almost Rp200 million at the Masterpiece Singapore auction room.

“Many art collectors attended the auction in search of Yarno’s painting, which is titled Power Struggle and was made in 2011.  At the end of the auction, the painting was sold at SGD 20,740,” said Galeri Apik director Rahmat in Jakarta on Thursday.

Rahmat said that Yarno was still considered a new artist in the nation and his works had only reached 58 paintings.

He added that Yarno’s works were still sold at around Rp9 million at joint exhibitions in March 2010, but later doubled to Rp18 million at the end of 2011 after being displayed in Seoul, South Korea; and Singapore.

In mid 2012, his paintings’ prices rose to Rp25 million and later soared to Rp40 million in 2013.

Rahmat said Yarno's works were considered unique because of his combination of colors and powerful strokes.
