Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp., the business unit of
Mitsubishi Motor and Daimler AG, plans to expand its commercial vehicle
factory in Indonesia.
Rizwan Alamsjah, marketing director of Krama Yudha
Tiga Berlian—the distributor of Mitsubishi in Indonesia, said this was
done to meet the market demand of commercial vehicles in Indonesia.
"This is the first factory expansion for us after 43 years of leading
the commercial vehicle market," Rizwan said at the Ministry of
Industry, yesterday. He was unwilling to state the investment value or
the production capacity of the new factory.
He did say that the factory might be located in Sunter, North
Jakarta. With the new factory, the production capacity of Mitsubishi's
Fuso trucks will grow to more than 165,000 units per year.
Budi Darmadi, director general of High Technology-Based Industry at
the Ministry, said that he had listened to Daimler management's exposure
on the factory expansion plan
"They asked about the strategies to maintain their market share. I
told them they need to invest in new models at the factory," he said.
In the exposure, Budi said, Daimler—the shareholder of Mitsubishi
Fuso, ensured that they will maintain their partnership with Krama Yudha
Tiga Berlian. Budi said this is a sign that Indonesia is still worthy
of being the automotive investment destination.
