Expert: These Two Factors May Cause the Malaysian Jet to Fall

Transportation and Logistics Central Research Head of Trisakti Transportation Management College (STMT), Suharto Abdul Majid, said that there are many factors that could cause the crash of Malaysia Airlines.

"But, in broad outline there are two conjectures that I could convey," he said when contacted by Tempo, Sunday, March 9.

The first is from the weather factor, air pressure or sudden turbulences. However, he stated that windshear may not be the cause of the accident. "Windshear normally happens on the land," he explained.

The second is from the plane's technical issues' factor. He opined that there is something wrong with the Boeing 777-200ER system that was operated by its aviation company, as a result, it lost contact from the air traffic controller (ATC).

Suharto explained that according to previous information, the weather around the area where the Malaysia Airlines MH370 crashed was in good condition. The Kuala Lumpur–Beijing route, he said, is also a relatively safe route. He assured that there have never been any airplane accidents in that route.

The Malaysia Airlines plane lost contact in the air region of Vietnam on Saturday, March 8. The plane that carried 227 passengers and 12 crew members was believed to fell in the South China Sea. Search and Rescue teams from nearby countries close to the flight route have been deployed to conduct a search.
