Lenovo Group Ltd will reportedly buy low-end server unit of
International Business Machines Corporation (IBM). A person familiar
with the matter said the talks have almost enter the final phase.
Both companies were previously in talks to buy that division last
year, but ended without any agreement over valuation. However, the
source did not state how far the revived talks have gone or how much the
proposed price is.
An IBM spokesperson said on Monday IBM will not comment on the news. Bloomberg,
quoting a person who knows about the matter, stated the talks are
approaching its final and an agreement may be signed in the next few
weeks.
The Wall Street Journal, also quoting an anonymous source,
stated Dell Inc may be one of the parties looking to buy IBM, although
it was not clear how seriously Dell considering this.
Dell previously bid US$25 billion last year, following prolonged troubles in the computation company.
IBM's server business unit sells servers used for company's data
center. According to Wall Street Journal, Lenovo offered to buy this
division at below US$2.5 billion.
